Richard Bavin

Richard’s work is primarily about light.  Outdoors he makes drawings and watercolour sketches supported by photographs and notes.  Equally important is the memory of sitting quietly in one place for 6-7 hours.  He aims to carry something of this contemplative element into his studio paintings.  Working in either watercolours or oils, he applies paint in layers over several weeks, introducing ambiguities of light and space which slowly open up to the viewer.  His intention is to try and distill the experiences into images which evoke the character and mood of the place. He is currently working in The Brecon Beacons, with Maggie Banks, preparing for an exhibition at Apple Store Gallery in August 2013.

Resume I started to paint seriously in 1996 when I left my previous career as an IT project manager to live in New Zealand.  Now based in Herefordshire, I exhibit and tutor regionally as a full-time professional artist, and have a studio at Artsite 3.  Specialising in landscape, particularly woodland and orchards, I work in charcoal, ink, watercolour and oils.  The Apple Store Gallery in Hereford has represented me since its inception in 2005.
